Dedication ceremony for Massachusetts Statehouse Time CapsuleSOMERVILLE, MA — Josh Dittrich, founder of Startsomething LLC, announced his company's development of a state of the art permanent storage encasement for an historic time capsule originally placed by our nation’s founding fathers, Paul Revere and Samuel Adams in 1795. Uncovered earlier this year, the historical artifact was rededicated and placed Tuesday in the cornerstone of the Massachusetts Statehouse in Boston.
“We are pleased to be able to offer our services to the State of Massachusetts and the Museum of Fine Arts, who were responsible for documenting and preserving this rare find,” stated Dittrich. The encasement - a custom designed assembly comprised of highly corrosion resistant stainless steel sections clamped together compressing a nickel gasket - was loaded, bolted together and purged with humidified Argon to rid the contents of oxygen on Tuesday at the Museum of Fine Arts Objects Conservation Lab. Prior to delivery, a stringent testing procedure was executed to ensure a leak-proof seal by way of high-vacuum helium leak detection. The testing was a success, far surpassing expectations; the leak rate was undetectable using a state-of-the-art leak detection unit, ensuring the enclosed items will be safely preserved for hundreds of years without decay. The capsule was placed in the cornerstone during a formal re-dedication ceremony Wednesday at the Massachusetts Statehouse, officiated by Governor Charlie Baker and Secretary of State William Galvin. Many were in attendance, including over 1000 Masons, who watched intently as the Masonic ritual of the laying of the cornerstone was performed.
